The Cause

'The Kraken'
In Norse mythology, the Kraken was feared for its immense size and power. The Kraken is usually depicted as an aggressive cephalopod-like creature capable of destroying entire ships and dragging sailors to their doom. However, we see the Kraken in a different light - as a symbol of inner strength and the ability to regenerate, much like an octopus regrows its lost limbs. 'Tame the Kraken' ocean rowing team, embodies the struggle that many veterans experience when dealing with mental health issues and PTSD - the dark monster they must face & conquer.
'Tame the Kraken' is more than a campaign; it is a beacon of hope and healing. By partnering with us, your organization can play a significant role in supporting those who have served our nation and ensuring they receive the care and resources they need to overcome their personal challenges.
At ‘Tame The Kraken’ we wholeheartedly believe in the healing power of camaraderie, learning and growing through shared experiences and overcoming challenges by way of teamwork.
Our aim to use this Pacific row to launch a greater initiative, ‘Row to Recovery’ an initiative that will inspire and empower people to support those veterans that need help in conquering their own personal Kraken. To bolster this mission, the team has partnered with organizations that align with that mission and throughout the campaign, the team will raise funds and awareness to benefit our charitable partners. All profits will support organizations to advance this mission.
We ask you to join us on this remarkable journey, not just as spectators, but as co-pilots in our collective quest for healing and empowerment through the sport of rowing. Your involvement, whether through financial support, participation, or spreading the word, is the gentle yet vital undertow propelling our cause forward.
Together, we can steer 'Row to Recovery' toward its full potential, ushering in a sea change of transformation for veterans in need. Stand with us as we venture into uncharted waters, not only for the thrill of the journey but to make waves of impact that resonate long after the Pacific voyage is done.

‘Row To Recovery’
There are countless studies and bodies of research showing that meditation, in various forms, has a profound impact on mental and physical health. It has the power to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can enhance emotional well-being by increasing self-awareness and empathy while improving focus and concentration.
Beyond the mind, the physical act of rowing has tangible effects on the body, such as lowering blood pressure, boosting cardiovascular health, and strengthening the whole body and immune system. Combine the two: meditation that can alleviate muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and lower the risk of chronic illnesses, with low-impact exercise that stimulates every muscle in the body, the cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic systems, and you have something extremely powerful and therapeutic – ‘Row to Recovery’. Now, despite the adventure and hardship our challenges present, Row to Recovery, is an ocean and coastal rowing program centered around recreational therapy with a mission to make a difference. Its core purpose goes far beyond the sport. Row to Recovery is dedicated to raising awareness and educating communities about mental health issues and the impact of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs), by providing the resources and opportunities for small groups of individuals to get together and benefit from all that rowing outside offers. Ocean rowing lends itself extremely well to charity fundraising, and it is estimated that a well-supported, successful crossing and campaign can generate a considerable amount of money for the charities associated; some campaigns have generated close to $1 million. In order to maximize charity fundraising, we’re making an appeal for corporate sponsorship to cover the campaign costs. |
Once this has been secured, we can turn all our attention to various promotional and fundraising activities leading up to our Pacific crossing.
With your help in covering our operational costs, our attention will turn to raising money for 'Row To Recovery'. Our Pacific 2025 fundraising target is to raise $220,000 that charities like the following can benefit from: The SHARE Military Initiative at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta offers a comprehensive 8–12-week rehabilitation program for post-9/11 service members who have sustained mild to moderate traumatic brain injuries (TBI) from military service. The specialized treatment also addresses symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), providing a safe and nurturing space for healing and recovery. Row to Recovery’s aim is to provide ‘rowing’ as an additional option to the established Health & Wellness program of recreational therapy and to provide the veterans undergoing treatment with the opportunity to try rowing in a safe and encouraging setting. BlazeSports America, in collaboration with the Atlanta Rowing Club, offers Veterans with disabilities a unique opportunity to explore adaptive rowing. Whether a beginner or have prior experience. ARC’s expert instructors will guide the veterans through the sport of adaptive rowing, including classifications, safety practices, and using adaptive equipment. After the training, participants in the program get to put their newly acquired skills to the test on the Chattahoochee River, where experienced guides will accompany and support them on the water. Best of all, this transformative experience is completely cost-free for our honored Veterans, as all instruction, equipment, and training are provided with gratitude for their service. Row to Recovery’s objective is to help expand this valuable program by funding additional equipment and coaching. |
